Fashionigga?

Fashionista is a portmanteau of 'fashion' + 'sista'. So what's the male equivalent? Is it Fashionigga (since 'sista' and 'nigga' are both ghetto language)?

Okay, I just looked it up on wikipedia, and apparently, the term fashionista refers to fashion victims, and it's originally meant as an insult. Love these quotes from the article, by the way:

"The labels have in many cases migrated from the inside of a garment to the outside... A fashion victim, able to recognize this phenomenon but unable to determine its boundary, may become a ‘walking billboard’.

...Fashion victims, by their characteristic inability to recognize boundaries, may aspire to the extreme end of what is available, seeking expensive products (or copies of these products), believing that the outward display of such items will draw admiration in proportion to their actual or apparent cost. Because of this, "the term 'fashion victim' became the ultimate insult to the aspirational
.
"

SO SPOT ON CAN?! It totally suits the description of those brand-whores (not a complimentary term please) who blindly pursue big designer brands like LV, Gucci, Chanel, [insert ah-lian brand] etc. Sigh, these people have unknowingly brought those atas brands down to ah-lian level. Blasphemous!

Whoever wrote this wikipedia article definitely deserves +5 internet points!

Anyway, I heavily digress from what I really want to blog about today. A friend of mine is opening a blogshop for guys, and I feel kindda envious! Isn't it great to run your own business and be doing something you're passionate about at the same time, ie. Fashion + Making Money? I have to confess, I'm sometimes tempted to open my own blogshop as well.

But, I don't want to operate in Perfect Competition -- many buyers/sellers, low entry barriers, homogenous goods. No economic profit like that! Hahaha. But seriously, all the blogshops I've seen are all too similar, since they all probably source their stuff from the same few suppliers. It's too difficult to stand out from the rest of the competition! I'm not surprised that most blogshops fail, even at the get go. And I don't want mine to be associated with the rest of them!

I've thought of designing my own brand t-shirts and apparels -- as opposed to sourcing decent-looking, but cheap and inferior clothes from someone else -- since I recognise my own super-creativity and flair for design. (I'm buay hao bai like that, haha!) K la, I was actually inspired by this guy. (Man, I'm very reluctant to share this gem and the idea! You all better not steal it!) Creative, original, and limited... I should be able to differentiate myself from everyone else right? And then, when my blog business amasses enough crazy hardcore diehard followers, I can set up my own shop at like, Haji Lane or Ann Siang Road or something. Total indie! It will be big man, I tell you.

Alas, they are all dreams at the moment :( I seriously believe that I have the business acumen and originality to make it all come through though. HAHA, I think I'm not bragging! So, any interested investors? ;)
